BIOGRAPHY

A native of Owensboro, Professor Logsdon has enjoyed a long and distinguished career at Kentucky Wesleyan College. In addition to her Faculty of the Year 2016, the Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence and Leadership 2018, the Wesleyan Way Award 2022, and the Faculty Mentorship Award 2022, Professor Logsdon has received awards for creative productions in photography, painting, and pen and ink. She was invited into two Honorariums at Georgetown College for State of Painting and State of Fine Art curated by Dr. Boris Zakic. Logsdon was featured in the invitation-only, traveling exhibition to Prague under Prof. Monty Helm in Useful Symbiosis and her oil painting won an International Special Recognition Award in the Women’s Only Juried Exhibition.

Her published works and successful grant activities, including grant awards exceeding $25,000 from the Marilyn & William Young Foundation, have won her international notoriety. Logsdon was invited to the CIC Seminars for research on the Uses of Antiquities at the University of Chicago under Dr. Rebecca Zorach and on the Landscape & Identity in Britain & the United States: Sublime Painters under Dr. Tim Barringer at Yale University. As curator of the College’s Kolok Ralph Gallery, Professor Logsdon has, marketed and hosted scores of exhibits, student showcases, and other public shows. Logsdon sits on the Congressional Arts Competition under Congressman Brett Guthrie as a co-judge since 2012.

Logsdon has been a Graduate Mentor for the Vermont College of Fine Arts (2019) and a Full Adjunct Professor of Art for the University of Maryland Global Campus (2016-2022).

These and other engagements, consultancies, and other individual commitments to area non-profit organizations, have allowed the College to extend its presence throughout the region. In the classroom, Professor Logsdon guides students toward the development of creative and intellectual skills. Her practice-based pedagogy favors discussion over lecture and problem solving over regurgitation. Self-analysis and peer critiques are key to this framework. Her graduates have gone on to achieve distinction in the arts with 90% working in the industry. Her online graphic program has ranked nationally in the top 10 multiple times!

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I believe that learning should be a fun and engaging experience! Art is important in the classroom because it cultivates creativity, problem-solving skills, self-expression, critical thinking, and tolerance to multicultural perspectives, while it increases academic performance in other disciplines. Art touches every discipline from math to religion to history to chemistry to biology and more! You can not look at anything without it being connected to art since someone designed that item! My goal is to act as a guide for my students in the visual arts to develop the competencies needed to work in an industry-related field and/or enter postgraduate training. I teach because I am passionate about art! Art soothes, energizes, and inspires me to expand the limits of my own perspectives. Designing furthers Art by going beyond the foundations to create digital works. My teaching pedagogy is to create discussions over lectures, stories over memorization, hands-on problem solving over parroting facts, demonstrations over assumptions, and, most importantly, allow failure “redo” over one-shot grading with a peer and self-critique analysis. I have 3 goals in the classroom:

  1. to provide the necessary knowledge and technical skills as artists.
  2. encourage visual critical analysis through competencies of interpretation and articulation.
  3. and develop a portfolio of personal innovative creative expression based on experience.

I believe I am an effective instructor because I passionately teach from experience and continue to expand my experiences through professional development to give my students the best from the art industry.
