Biology

The Biology program at Kentucky Wesleyan College provides undergraduate programs in the biological sciences within the framework of a liberal arts education.

We expect our majors to become well-rounded biologists and zoologists, but we also expect them to identify areas of special interest in preparation for post-graduate opportunities.

With these objectives in mind, the Kentucky Wesleyan College Biology program offers one option for baccalaureate degree majors.

  • The B.S. degree in biology – primarily for pre-health career students and those pursuing graduate degree programs.

The majority of Kentucky Wesleyan’s biology graduates pursue the B.S. degree and seek admission to medical, dental, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, optometry, or veterinary school.

Many of the undergraduate courses required by these schools are included in the B.S. degree curriculum. In addition, the curriculum is designed to include course work that will prepare the student for admission examinations such as the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), Dental Admissions Test (DAT), etc. Student success at gaining admission is also a function of earning a competitive G.P.A.

All biology majors are encouraged to complete an independent laboratory, field or library research project. Students can participate in a summer research program or carry out directed student research during their junior or senior year. Presentation of their project can be during BIO/ZOO 4114 Senior Seminar.
