Communication Arts

Communication arts at Kentucky Wesleyan is an integrated program that includes courses in mass media, advertising, public relations, and general communications. This combination allows you latitude in selecting courses and working toward a variety of communication career goals.

Media Studies Emphasis

Our communications emphasis is a broad program tailored for students who are interested in careers in mass media fields, such as radio, television and providing content for Internet sites. You can pursue a wide range of employment opportunities from this track, including media sales, audio and video production, media management, on-air performance and education.

Advertising and Public Relations Emphasis

The advertising and public relations emphasis is specifically geared towards students who are interested in careers in the advertising and public relations industries. This would include working at advertising or public relations agencies, or seeking employment in companies that require individuals to handle publicity, coordinate public events and manage image control for the institution.

WKWC 90.3FM

In addition to coursework, the communication arts program offers a number of practical learning opportunities. You may gain experience at the campus radio station, WKWC-FM, 90.3, which is a 5,000 watt station serving Daviess and surrounding counties. Its diversified music format includes acoustic, rock, album rock and Americana.

WKWC also broadcasts local news, sports and specialty programs throughout the week while giving students an opportunity to gain valuable on-air and behind-the-scenes experience.

Internships

In addition to on-campus facilities, communication arts offers an internship course for students to gain experience at area media and other business outlets. In recent years, internship locations have included WBKR-FM 92.5, Cromwell Radio Group, Owensboro Convention Center, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
