BASEBALL PANTHERS SIGNS OWENSBORO CATHOLIC PRODUCT  (July 25, 2000)

Adam Hancock, a third baseman from Owensboro Catholic High School, has signed a national letter-of intent to attend Kentucky Wesleyan College and play baseball according to second-year KWC head coach Greg McVey.

Hancock, a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner, started all 32 games where he led the Aces to a 21-11 record, a Third Region title and a trip to the Western Kentucky state sectionals this past season. He batted .544 with 49 hits in 123 plate appearances and knocked in 29 runs.

The two-time all-district performer had 10 doubles, five triples and two home runs while scoring 34 runs. Hancock also pitched where he cumulative a 5-1 record with a 2.24 earned run average in 33 innings on the mound.

"Adam is a solid all-around player but his best asset is his defensive skills and with time he will progress offensively with the bat," said McVey. "He will receive spot playing time behind senior third baseman Bryce Burger and when he leaves Adam will be our starter for three years. It's great to have a local player who wanted to stay home and play collegiate baseball because it is very important to us in recruiting area talent."

Hancock is the fifth signee for the Panthers this year. He joins Kris Snyder from South Spencer (Ind.) HS, Josh Milam from Louisville DeSales HS, Jason Kramer from Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.) HS, and Jimmy Kreinest from Scott (Ky.) HS.

LEWIS RESIGNS (July 20, 2000)

Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball coach Scott Lewis announced his resignation effective July 31, to become the assistant principal at Beaver Dam (Ky.) Elementary School.

Lewis leaves as the winningest coach (by wins and percentage) in the 24-year history of KWC women's basketball with a 48-33 record in three seasons for a 59.3 winning percentage.

He led the Panthers to their best record in history in 1992 when they finished 21-8. Lewis left after the 1992 season and returned in 1998 to guide KWC the past two seasons.

Director of Athletics Larry Moore said, "a search will begin immediately and no timetable has been established on fulfilling the position. However, it would be ideal to have new coach in place by the time the fall semester starts on Tuesday, August 22."

BASEBALL PANTHERS SIGN PREP STAR (July 7, 2000)

Kris Snyder, a right-handed pitcher from South Spencer High School in Rockport, Ind., has signed a national letter-of intent to attend Kentucky Wesleyan College and play baseball according to second-year KWC head coach Greg McVey.

Snyder, a three-year starter, led the Rebels with a 7-3 record in 11 starts. He also recorded a team best 1.31 earned run average and 73 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched. His best two outings were a no-hitter and a perfect game. Snyder also batted .364 with 32 hits, 28 runs batted in, eight doubles and three homeruns. He twice earned first-team all-conference honors and was named the team's most valuable player as a senior.

"Kris has outstanding size and arm strength especially with his 6-foot-5 inch and 225 pound frame," said McVey. "He also has developed a slider in his pitching arsenal which will complement his fastball and curve. He will only improve as he gets more experience."

Snyder is the fourth signee for the Panthers this year. He joins Josh Milam from Louisville DeSales HS, Jason Kramer from Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.) HS, and Jimmy Kreinest from Scott HS (Ky.).
