HOFFMANN NAMED NATIONAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FOR SECOND TIME (November 1, 2000)For the second-time this season Football Gazette named Kentucky Wesleyan's senior quarterback Brian Hoffmann as their NCAA Division II National co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday.
Hoffmann, a 6-foot-2-inch, 210 pounder from Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland HS, set four KWC single game records with 491 yards passing, 31 pass completions, six touchdown passes and 517 yards in total offense in leading the Panthers to a come-from-behind 49-42 victory over visiting Quincy University.
He also had 48 pass attempts and rushed for 26 yards on 10 carries for the day.
"I said prior to the game with one of our athletic staff members that I would like to have 500 yards in passing before finishing my college career," said Hoffmann. "To come within nine yards of reaching my dream on the day I said it is unbelievable."
Hoffmann's 517 yards in total offense and 491 passing yards are the second-best single-game performances in NCAA Division II this season. He currently ranks No. 9 in the nation in total offense with 262.1 yards per game.
Hoffmann is the second KWC player in history to earn National Player of the Week honors twice in one season. Former Panther quarterback J. D. Meyers accomplished the feat in 1997.
Kentucky Wesleyan (3-5) will play the Morehead State University Eagles (4-2) at Jayne Stadium (10,000) in Morehead, Ky. for a 12:30 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday.
