HOFFMANN NAMED NATIONAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (September 27, 2000)

Football Gazette named Kentucky Wesleyan's senior quarterback Brian Hoffmann as their NCAA Division II National tri-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday.

Hoffmann, a 6-foot-2-inch, 210 pounder from Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland HS, threw for 404 yards and two touchdowns by completing 26 of 46 attempts and also accumulating 434 yards in total offense in leading the Panthers to a 47-26 victory over visiting Westminster College.

"I appreciate the magazine's recognition of my play on Saturday," said Hoffmann. "It was a thrilling game to be part of and one to remember the rest of my life."

Hoffmann's 434 yards in total offense and the 404 passing yards are the second-best single-game performances in NCAA Div. II this season and the 26 pass completions are the 10th-best.

All three are also the second-best single-game performances in KWC history. Hoffmann currently ranks No. 14 in the nation in total offense with 249.3 yards per game.

He is the fourth KWC player in history to earn National Player of the Week honors. J. D. Meyers (qb) earned the honor twice in 1997 with Karl Bates (dt) and Nick Boling (lb) receiving the award last season.

Kentucky Wesleyan (1-3) will host the Gannon University Golden Knights (2-2) at Apollo Stadium for a 1 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday.

Also receiving national offensive player of the week recognition were quarterbacks Adam Almashy from Clarion University (Pa.) and Sleepie Tollie from Northwood University (Mich.).
