LORICO DUNCAN NAMED TRI-GLVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK (February 26, 2001) 

Kentucky Wesleyan All-American Lorico Duncan averaged 20.0 points, directed his team to a huge road upset over then No. 2-ranked Southern Indiana and collected his fourth double-double of the season, to earn Tri-Player of the Week honors in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

This is the fourth-time the league has named Duncan as Player of the Week in two seasons. He is the first Panther this season to receive the honor.

Duncan, a 6-2 senior guard from Memphis, scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds as KWC stunned Southern Indiana, 91-89 last Thursday. He came back on Saturday to register a double-double, scoring 18 points and collecting 11 assists as KWC completed a two-victory week on the road at SIUE.

The No. 2 ranked Panthers and three-time defending GLVC Tournament champions will open the tournament with a 23-3 record and the No. 2 seed on Thursday against No. 7 seed Lewis (11-15) at 8:30 CT in Evansville, Ind. at Roberts Stadium (12,300).

Northern Kentucky senior guard Craig Conley and Saint Joseph's senior forward Brandon Yates shared the honors with Duncan.


KENTUCKY WESLEYAN RETURNS TO NO. 2 (February 26, 2001)  

Kentucky Wesleyan returned to No. 2 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Division II Bulletin weekly Top 25 men's poll after last week at No. 4. The Panthers started the season at No. 2 for four weeks.

KWC (23-3) swept two Great Lakes Valley Conference road games last week as they upset then No. 2 Southern Indiana, 91-89, and SIU Edwardsville 108-71.

Adelphi (NY) remained No. 1 then KWC, Southern Indiana, Southwest State (Minn.), Saint Michael's (Vt.), Queens (NC), Washburn (Kan.), Cal State San Bernardino, Wingate (NC) and South Dakota for this week's top 10.

It was a tough week for many ranked teams, as six of the top 10 were beaten last week.

Kentucky Wesleyan, No. 2 seed, opens the GLVC Tournament on Thursday against No. 7 seed Lewis (11-15) at 8:30 CT in Evansville, Ind. at Roberts Stadium (12,300).

KENTUCKY WESLEYAN MOVES UP TO NO. 4  (February 19, 2001) 

Kentucky Wesleyan moved up one spot to No. 4 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Division II Bulletin weekly Top 25 men's poll after last week at No. 5.

The Panthers (21-3, 15-3) swept three Great Lakes Valley Conference home games last week as they defeated Bellarmine, 81-67, No. 15 Northern Kentucky, 80-57, and Indianapolis, 88-66.

Adelphi (NY) and Southern Indiana remained No. 1 and 2 followed by South Dakota, Kentucky Wesleyan, Washburn (Kan.), Cal State San Bernardino, Wingate (NC), Northeastern State (Okla.), Southwest State (Minn.) and Saint Michael's (Vt.) for this week's top 10.

For the second straight week, nine teams lost last week and two new teams entered the Top 25.

Kentucky Wesleyan will play their final two games of the season on the road. The Panthers play at No. 2 Southern Indiana (23-1, 17-1) on Thursday at 7:30 CT and SIU Edwardsville (7-17, 4-14) on Saturday at 7:45.

HARPER SETS NCAA COACHING RECORD (February 17, 2001) 

Kentucky Wesleyan College head men's basketball coach Ray Harper broke the NCAA coaching record for best career start (by wins) in five seasons with 138 when the No. 5 Panthers defeated visiting Indianapolis 88-66 on Saturday, Feb. 17. Everett Case of North Carolina State (1947-51) held the old record with 137.

Harper's five-year record at KWC is 138-19 for a 87.9 winning percentage or an average of 27.6 wins per season.


17 STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE (February 14, 2001) 

Seventeen Kentucky Wesleyan College student-athletes were named to the 2000 Great Lakes Valley Conference Fall Sports All-Academic team today.

Three-time honorees include Dominique Crisp (soccer) a junior from Freemont, Calif./Mission HS; Robin Joska (soccer) a senior Chrudm, Czech Republic.

Two-time honorees include Maureen Fagan (soccer) a sophomore from Owensboro/Owensboro HS; Scott Lyons (golf) a sophomore from Hardinsburg, Ky./Breckinridge County HS; Kari Miller (soccer) a sophomore from Owensboro/Daviess County HS; and Laura Murphy (soccer) a sophomore from Owensboro/Daviess County HS;

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant substitute and the student-athlete has a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 or has attained a GPA of at least 3.4 in each of the preceding two semesters. Freshmen or first-year transfers must achieve a GPA of 3.4 or higher during the fall semester.

Kentucky Wesleyan jumped to No. 5 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Division II Bulletin weekly Top 25 men's poll after last week at No. 10.

The Panthers (18-3, 12-3) swept two Great Lakes Valley Conference home games last week as they defeated Lewis, 77-66, and Wisconsin Parkside, 84-59.

Adelphi, Southern Indiana and Wingate remained No. 1, 2 and 3 with the rest of the top 10 changing. South Dakota was No. 4 followed by Kentucky Wesleyan, Washburn, Cal State San Bernardino, Salem International, Saint Anselm and Queens for this week's top 10.

Nine teams from last week's rankings lost and two new teams entered the Top 25.

Kentucky Wesleyan will play their final three home games of the season this week. The Panthers play host to Bellarmine (12-9, 9-6) on Tuesday, No. 15 Northern Kentucky (20-4, 11-4) on Thursday and Indianapolis (12-9, 7-8). Tip-off for all three contests is 7:30 CT.

Kentucky Wesleyan slipped to No. 10 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Division II Bulletin weekly Top 25 men's poll after last week at No. 6.

The Panthers (16-3, 10-3) split two Great Lakes Valley Conference road games as they defeated Quincy, 96-68, on Thursday and lost to Missouri St. Louis, 63-62, on Saturday.

Adelphi (20-0) and Southern Indiana (18-1) remained No. 1 and 2 with the rest of the top 10 changing. Wingate (19-1) was No. 3 followed by Cal State San Bernardino (17-1), Salem International (18-2), South Dakota (18-3), Northern Kentucky (19-3), South Dakota State (18-3), Southwest State (Minn.) and KWC.
