SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS
Please remember these guidelines for your safety:
WATCH - conditions are favorable for the weather event
WARNING - the hazard is already occurring or is imminent
- If severe weather conditions are possible or present, stay tuned to a local radio station (WBKR 92.5) for bulletins and updates. Be ready to seek a safe location.
- Do not drive through flooded areas. Two feet of water can carry most vehicles.
- During lightning, seek shelter in buildings. Get away from bodies of water and tall, isolated trees.
- When local tornado sirens are sounded, proceed immediately to the lowest floor of the building in which you are located. If a basement is not available, move to a first floor hallway or small, interior room, away from windows and glass. Take cover under heavy furniture, crouch down and protect your head. Vehicles are NOT a safe location during major storms. Be aware of flying debris. Safe locations in campus buildings include:
Barnard-Jones Administration Building - basement hallways or interior hallways on first floor
- The Hocker Family Dining Center– the kitchen area; time permitting, move to the first floor Library
- Deacon Hall - first floor hallway
- Faculty Office Building – west interior hallway
- Kendall Hall - basement rooms or first floor hallway
- Library - interior offices
- Facilities Building - interior area
- Massie Hall – basement or first floor hallway
- Peeples Hall - basement rooms or first floor hallways
- Playhouse – if you must remain, go to the dressing area; if time permits, move to HRC
- President’s Home – basement
- Ralph Center - small performance hall
- Stadium Drive Hall - first floor interior hallways inside of units
- Yu Hak Hahn Center for the Sciences – first floor interior hallways
- Winchester Center – post office; interior wall of Rogers Hall (Rogers Hall is unlocked)
- Woodward Health & Recreation Center – interior hallway near athletic offices
- Reserve cell phone usage during storms for true emergency calls.
