KWC to Host Exonerated Former Inmate

Owensboro, Ky. (November 2, 2012) – The Kentucky Wesleyan College Criminal Justice, Criminology and Law Program, along with Campus Ministries, is hosting Darryl Burton, a former prison inmate who was wrongfully convicted of capital murder and armed criminal action in 1985, on Thursday, November 8, at 7 p.m. in Tapscott Chapel. Burton spent 24 years in prison pursuing his freedom, and he was exonerated on August 29, 2008. During the years of wrongful incarceration, Burton studied the law, prepared legal briefs and filed motions with the courts while working to prove his innocence. While incarcerated, he was a youth counselor and mentored youths from juvenile detention centers, churches and schools. He will present his story, share his personal struggles and discuss the global problem of wrongful convictions and issues related to helping former inmates integrate back into society. Burton speaks nationally and internationally about wrongful convictions. For more information, contact Dr. Ken Ayers at 270-852-3169 or
