Medical Technology at KWC
About the Program
Kentucky Wesleyan College offers pre-professional preparation for students seeking admission to a medical technology program. Upon completion of a specified curriculum, you will be prepared to apply to a certified School of Medical Technology.
KWC's medical technology curriculum includes a minimum of five semesters of both biology and chemistry and two semesters of physics.

Degree Options
You have two options at Kentucky Wesleyan College to gain certification as a medical technologist:
The first option is to attend KWC for three years, fulfilling all requirements for admission to a 12-month clinical program at Owensboro Medical Health System or any program accredited by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). When you successfully complete the clinical program, you will be awarded a B.S. degree in Medical Technology from KWC.
The second option is to complete a B.S. degree in biology or chemistry, and then enter a 12-month clinical program at OMHS or any other program accredited by the ASCP.
With either option, you must take and pass the Registry of Medical Technology after completion of the clinical program to become certified by the ASCP.

Medical Technology School Preparation
Kentucky Wesleyan College's faculty assists you by providing guidance in determining appropriate curriculum and applying to a clinical program, and by furnishing letters of recommendation.
KWC medical technology alumni are currently employed in hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices and regional blood banks. Several are directors of their respective laboratories.

Scholarships/Assistantships
Most chemistry and biology majors at Kentucky Wesleyan receive academic scholarships. Many also serve as assistants in science laboratories, classrooms and offices.
Assistantships provide valuable learning experiences for students. We encourage all pre-medical technology students to participate in this program.
Summer Research
The faculty encourages students to take part in health science summer research programs in university and governmental laboratories.
KWC students have recently participated in programs at the Universities of Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee and New Mexico, as well as Vanderbilt University, Oak Ridge National Laboratories and the OMHS Cancer Research Center.
