Electronic Fund Transfer
Giving to Kentucky Wesleyan College has never been easier or more convenient. When you use Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT), you authorize Kentucky Wesleyan College to electronically deduct an amount of your choosing from your checking account every month. A small monthly gift turns into a larger gift through Electronic Funds Transfer.
Outright Gifts
Outright gifts are contributions transferred immediately from the donor to Kentucky Wesleyan College.
•Cash – Gifts of cash may be designated for a specific purpose or may be unrestricted to be used for the greatest need. Giving by credit card online to Wesleyan is an increasingly popular option. Additionally, gifts may be given through Electronic Funds Transfer.
•Securities – Stocks or bonds offer a great way to support Kentucky Wesleyan. Income tax deductions are available for the fair market value of appreciated securities.
•Tangible Personal Property – Cars, equipment, or other tangible property may be donated to Kentucky Wesleyan to be liquidated or for use in daily operations.
•Residences and Real Estate – Nearly any type of real property may be donated: a personal residence, farm, vacation home, commercial building or parcel of land. A personal residence or farm may be given to the College even though the owner and other specified persons may continue to live there for a designated time or for the remainder of their lives.
Deferred Gifts
Deferred gifts are received at a time designated by the donor, usually after the donor’s death. For example:
•Life Insurance – Both new insurance policies and those no longer needed to protect beneficiaries may be given to Kentucky Wesleyan. These gifts offer the donor a variety of benefits and often make possible a much larger gift than might otherwise be possible.
•Wills, Bequests, Codicils – One of the easiest and most common ways to make a deferred gift is through a bequest in a will. A bequest can be a specific sum or item, or a percentage of an estate. A bequest can also name Kentucky Wesleyan to receive the remainder of an estate after other specified bequests have been fulfilled. The College may also be named in a codicil, a legally binding addition to an up-to-date will.
Life Income Plans
Kentucky Wesleyan offers three types of life income plans: charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder unitrusts, and charitable remainder annuity trusts. Under each plan, a donor transfers assets to Kentucky Wesleyan and, in exchange, receives a lifetime income that may also continue for another beneficiary.
•Charitable Gift Annuities provide a secure future for the donor and a charitable gift at the same time. This fixed income plan pays the donor, another person, or both a guaranteed income for life. A deferred charitable gift annuity may also be arranged as part of a retirement program.
•Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts and Charitable Remainder Unitrusts allow a donor to give to Kentucky Wesleyan during his or her lifetime, retain income from the gift, and benefit from both income and capital gains tax savings.
Special Gifts
A Charitable Lead Trust enables a donor to transfer assets to the trust, which pays income to the College rather than to a beneficiary. At the end of the trust period, the property or principal returns to the donor or is paid to a non-charitable beneficiary. Such a trust may be established by a donor or created through a will. Gift and estate taxes may be reduced or eliminated when passing property to heirs through a charitable lead trust.
Matching Gifts from employers provide an excellent opportunity to increase the power of a donation. If the company where you or your spouse work (or from which you’re retired) has a corporate matching gift program, your contribution could be matched or doubled! Contact your company’s human resources office and ask for a matching gift form. Complete the employee portion of the form and send it to:
