Dr. Rebecca Francis has served in the dual roles of Associate Dean of the College and Director of Adult and Online Education at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY since July 2015. Under Dr. Francis’ administration, the nationally ranked KWC Online Degree Programs have grown to 6 fully-online bachelor’s degree programs, with approximately 80 totally-online students currently enrolled. Dr. Francis has grown the online degree enrollment at KWC by improving customer service in the admissions and enrollment processes, and by actively coaching post-traditional students who wish to complete their degree to meet professional and personal goals.
Dr. Francis has over 25 years of experience working as a teacher and an administrator in university, community college, and public middle school settings. In addition to teaching, she has extensive experience in working in student success and retention support services – career services, disability services, tutoring, and advising – for traditional students. She was also an innovator in using technology to enhance learning in the classroom setting and through distance education.
Dr. Francis is originally from Shelby County, Kentucky. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky in Integrated Pest Management, with a minor in Mathematics. She moved to North Carolina to complete her Masters of Science in Plant Pathology degree and Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Higher Education Administration at North Carolina State University. She returned to Kentucky after residing 30 years in North Carolina.
Dr. Francis is a national speaker and author. Among her accolades, she has been recognized as a Top Ten Business Woman of the American Business Women Association in 2008, and was a Top Ten Finalist for a North Carolina Community College “Excellence in Teaching” Award in 1995. She is also an international registered Horticultural Therapist at the Masters level (HTM).
