My name is Shelby Settle and I am a freshman at Kentucky Wesleyan College. I am thankful for the opportunity to participate and learn about social media in the marketing internship. I met three student interns with the same passion for marketing as I do, as well as two great mentors, April Ray and Jeremy Pittman.
The internship taught me how to take clear photographs, live videos, and post current events about Wesleyan through social media. I posted videos and pictures on Snap Chat, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. April Ray provided each intern with a training on how to use a Canon camera and how to properly post on social media. I gained more confidence in my knowledge of social media through the internship by interacting with the camera and all social media platforms.
My favorite project included uploading videos and pictures of my daily life to social media with the “A Day in the Life” project. I enjoyed this project the most because it was fun to create and informational for prospective students who wanted to learn more about a normal day of Kentucky Wesleyan college student.
Throughout the semester I took pictures of the student mock interviews, canine training, dinner etiquette, and the Hamlet school play. I created a video of pictures of the mock interviews, etiquette dinner, and K9 presentation for the career development office. The video reveals how Kentucky Wesleyan helps students learn important material to succeed in the real world.
I enjoyed the internship and love how much I learned through interacting with the mentors and fellow students at the events I attended. The internship opened my eyes to realize that social media marketing is a career path I want to peruse. I am interested in learning more about marketing in my years to come at Wesleyan.
