Introducing the President

The following is an introduction for Kentucky Wesleyan College President, Dr. Thomas Mitzel. It is meant to serve as a guide in the event you must introduce him on or off campus. In the case of a personal connection, it is encouraged to add a personal touch. It is most important to keep introductory remarks brief.

Dr. Thomas Mitzel became the 35th president of Kentucky Wesleyan College on January 6, 2020. Dr. Mitzel arrived at KWC following four years at Dickinson State University in North Dakota. He has excelled in every academic setting: as a scholar and faculty member, an associate provost, a dean of Natural Sciences, a provost of a nationally ranked liberal arts college, and as President of a small state university.

He and his wife, Rhonda, are both natives of South Dakota, and graduates of Northern State University. Dr. Mitzel was a cross country athlete at Northern, and following completion of his undergraduate degree in chemistry went on to earn a Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Boston College, followed by a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Ohio State University.
