Kentucky Wesleyan College Announces Local and Regional Outreach Events

Schedule Includes Churchill Downs and Keeneland, with addition of First Thursday Initiative

Kentucky Wesleyan College has announced a series of local and regional outreach events to connect with alumni and friends in Owensboro and throughout the Commonwealth. For the second consecutive year, the College will host Wesleyan at the Races events at historic Churchill Downs and Keeneland Racecourse, while introducing a “First Thursday” initiative to bring together Owensboro-area alumni and friends on a monthly basis.

“We are excited to present new events and continue to build on the success of previously hosted activities to further connect alumni with their alma mater,” said Eddie Kenny, Senior Director of Alumni Relations.  “With the feedback gained from our alumni via surveys and the work of our Alumni Association Board of Directors and its committees, we are excited to continue the momentum of strengthening the bond of alumni with each other, and with Kentucky Wesleyan College.”

Wesleyan First Thursdays will begin on March 2, kicking off a new monthly event for alumni and friends to gather, connect, and network with one another.  The inaugural First Thursday event will be at Buffalo Wild Wings (4736 Frederica St.) from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with future events throughout Owensboro.  First Thursdays are complimentary to attend, with food and beverages available for purchase.

Another new event will take place on Tuesday, March 21 with “Painting with a Wesleyan Twist.”  Hosted at the Owensboro location of Painting with a Twist (5010 Wildcat Way, Ste. #4), the nationally-recognized instructional art studio, the event pairs art with socialization in a fun, festive setting, complete with food and beverages.  Alumna Hadley Rafferty ’06 will lead the class by providing step-by-step instructions to create a one-of-a-kind painting of a Kentucky Wesleyan College landmark. The event has limited seating, and guests can register at https://kwc.weshareonline.org/Painting.

The hugely successful “Wesleyan at the Races” returns for a second straight year, as the Alumni Association will host events at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington and Churchill Downs in Louisville.  The Day at the Races at Keeneland will take place Saturday, April 22, beginning with a Tailgate on the Hill at 11 a.m. ET before guests enjoy the racing action from reserved grandstand seating beginning at 1 p.m. ET.  Guests will again enjoy Downs After Dark from Millionaires Row at historic Churchill Downs on Saturday, June 17.  This unique experience features reserved seating, a Chef’s Table buffet, racing program, and breathtaking views from the sixth-floor balcony overlooking the finish line.  Each event has limited seating, and guests can purchase tickets at https://kwc.weshareonline.org/Keeneland2017 or https://kwc.weshareonline.org/Downs

The Alumni Association will also host gatherings in Nashville, TN, Cincinnati, OH and Indianapolis, IN during 2017, as well as the annual Winchester Picnic on August 5 at the school’s former Winchester campus.  Homecoming 2017 will take place on campus October 6-8, and the College will embark on its first-ever alumni cruise, “Wesleyan on the Waves,” to the Caribbean in June 2018 with full details to be announced next month.
