Kentucky Wesleyan to Host Ellie Magnuson Lecture on ‘Doyle, Sherlock, and Forensics’

Owensboro, Ky. (Oct. 11, 2015) – Kentucky Wesleyan College will host the Ellie Magnuson Lecture in Literature and Science at 7:30 pm, Monday, Oct. 19, in Rogers Hall at the Winchester Center. Professor Emeritus of English Dr. John Combs will speak on “Doyle, Sherlock, and Forensics.” The event is free and open to the public.  Dr. Combs holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas, an M.A. in English from Texas A & M, a B.D. in Theology from Southern Methodist University and a B.A. in Speech from Southwestern Oklahoma University. He served 32 years as a full-time professor and 10 years as an adjunct professor at Wesleyan, where he taught British Literature, British Survey courses and literature from 1660 to the present. He was honored as the Outstanding Professor in 1985 and was recognized with the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership in 1992.

The Ellie Magnuson Lectures in Literature and Science honor the memory of Ellie Magnuson (1937-1989), a medical technologist with a passion for English literature, history and travel.
