Kentucky Wesleyan College will host its second annual Wesleyan Way Day of Service on Monday, Nov. 28, followed by #GivingTuesday on Nov. 29. Last year’s inaugural two-day event included 141 volunteers who served 172 hours in the community and 275 donations totaling $113,000 for the College.

The day of service will include Wesleyan students, faculty, staff and alumni in partnership with local nonprofit organizations conducting service projects throughout the community. Partners include the Boulware Mission, Cravens Elementary School, Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club, The Daniel Pitino Shelter, New Beginnings, Puzzle Pieces and Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church, among other organizations.

The event is sponsored by ADventures/Wax Works, Butler County United Methodist Women, Independence Bank, Hendrick Screen Company and the Owensboro District of the United Methodist Church.

Wesleyan President Barton D. Darrell said the College values its place in the community.

“We’re excited to kick off the giving season with this two-day event,” Darrell said. “It’s a tremendous opportunity to again show how much we value service to our community.”

The community is encouraged to lock arms with the College by supporting Wesleyan’s efforts with the Boulware Mission. Hats, gloves, socks and hygiene items such as soap, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste can be dropped off at The Martin Center on Wesleyan’s campus at 919 Scherm Road between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Nov. 17-18, 21-23 and 28.

Leigha Taylor, Executive Director & CEO of the Boulware Mission, said the Mission and other local nonprofit organizations will “benefit greatly” from this initiative.

“We are so appreciative to Kentucky Wesleyan College for encouraging a mindset of volunteerism and philanthropy among their students, alumni and faculty,” Taylor said.

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity worldwide. It is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities, with a focus on participation rather than how much a person is able to give. More than 30,000 organizations have participated in the Giving Tuesday initiative since its inception in 2012.

Alumni and friends of Wesleyan can visit kwc.edu/give on Nov. 29 to make their gift. The Advancement Office (Room 105 in the Barnard-Jones Administration Building on Wesleyan’s campus) will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Giving Tuesday if donors wish to hand deliver gifts, or they may call 270-852-3142 to make a contribution via credit card.
