KWC kicks off graduation season April 30

Kentucky Wesleyan College will kick off the area’s graduation season at 10 a.m. April 30, when it graduates a class of 125 students in the college’s Hocker-Hall Grove.

If the weather is bad, the ceremony will move inside Jones Gymnasium at the Woodward Health and Recreation Center, according to Kathy Rutherman, KWC’s director of public relations.

Lydia Dorman, a 1982 KWC graduate who is currently senior vice president of human resources for the Coca-Cola Co. in Japan, will be the keynote speaker.

KWC will also award three honorary doctorates, Rutherman said.

Randall Capps, a 1957 KWC graduate who is currently with Leadership Strategies Group in Bowling Green, will receive the doctorate of humanities; Dorman will receive the doctorate of laws; and Dr. Angelos Stergiou, a 1997 KWC graduate who is now CEO and chairman of Sellas Life Sciences Group in Zug, Switzerland, will receive the doctorate of science.

Three other college graduations and 11 high school graduations are also on tap through the end of May.

On the college front, Owensboro Community & Technical College’s graduation exercises are slated for 7 p.m. May 10 at the RiverPark Center; Brescia University’s will be at 10 a.m. May 14 at the RiverPark Center; and WKU-Owensboro’s will be at 6:30 p.m. May 16 at the RiverPark Center.

Christ Chapel Academy will lead off the high school graduations at 6 p.m. May 13 at its chapel at 2600 New Hartford Road.

 

Then come Owensboro High School at 7 p.m. May 20 at the Sportscenter; Trinity High School at 7 p.m. May 20 at the Hines Center; Ohio County High School at 2 p.m. May 21 in the high school gym; McLean County High School at 7 p.m. May 23 in the high school gym; Muhlenberg County High School at 7 p.m. May 26 in Mustang Stadium (or 7 p.m. May 27 if it rains).

Daviess County High School at 6 p.m. May 27 at the Sportscenter; Heritage Park High School at 8 a.m. May 28 at the Hines Center; Apollo High School at 11 a.m. May 28 in the Sportscenter; Hancock County High School at 7 p.m. May 28 in the high school gym; and Owensboro Catholic High School at 2 p.m. May 29 in the Sportscenter.
