What were your first impressions of Kentucky Wesleyan?
I transferred from St. Catharine College near Springfield, Ky., which closed earlier this year. So I began my senior year in a new environment.
I bonded with others here on campus right away, and I appreciate that people took the time to reach out and get to know me. I feel like I’ve always been here.
This campus is a lot like a family, and faculty and staff are amazing. They make themselves available, and they are willing to do whatever they can to help students succeed.
President Darrell approached me my very first day here and made me feel welcome. I see him all over campus all the time. It means a lot to students that he is interested in us.
Who has mentored you since your arrival?
Professor Ken Ayers, a criminal justice professor, has been very helpful and supportive during my transition.
Coach Tony Rowe comes to mind, too. He relates well to students.
Shawn Tomes, director of campus ministries, is quite a role model to me.
Tell us about your involvement in campus ministries.
I’ve always had a heart for campus ministries and for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). It means a lot to me as a Christian and as a new student on campus that the students involved in campus ministries are like family to me.
Shawn Tomes has helped me grow in my faith and has encouraged me to share my faith around campus.
In addition to attending the weekly chapel service on Wednesdays, I’m involved in FCA, and I attend The Gap on Monday nights twice a month. The Gap is a prayer service for students, and people from local churches come to pray with us. It is phenomenal.
Stories takes place every Wednesday night. Two people share there testimonies, a student and a faculty or staff member or a community church leader. This gives us the opportunity to see what God has done and is doing in their lives. It is a very encouraging time.
What are your impressions of Owensboro?
I love Owensboro! People are friendly, and it has a city feel, but the country is close.
What are your plans following your graduation in April?
I plan to stay in Owensboro and take a position with FCA.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I am truly thankful that I found Wesleyan. I could never have imagined one year ago that I would be here. I feel so at home here, and that means everything to me.
