Fall 2017 Orientation Schedules and Information

  • New Student Orientation 2017

    • Saturday, August 19

      10:00 am-12:00 pm: Residential Student Check-in

      Students living on campus move into their residence halls during this time period after completing clearances in the Winchester Center. Student leaders, faculty, and staff will be on hand to welcome students and families and assist them with moving belongings into your new home.

      2:00 pm: Commuter Student Check-in

      Commuter students check-in at Rogers Hall in the Winchester Center.

      3:00 pm: First Orientation Group Meeting (wear your new Orientation T-shirt and your group bracelet)

      Student Orientation Staff (SOSers) will meet with their orientation groups for the first time in the Quad and then move to break-out locations. 

      5:00 pm: Welcome Dinner

      Join President Bart Darrell, faculty, and staff at the annual Welcome Dinner on the Front Lawn 

      Participate in a campus tradition that marks the official beginning of your college career.  New Students are ceremonially passed from the Admission Staff to the Student Services and Academic Affairs staff.  Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Paula Dehn, will provide a charge to the class

      7:00 pm: Orientation groups meet at break-out areas

      9:00 pm: 80s Dance Party
      Jones Gym

      Get out your parachute pants and neon muscle shirts!  It is time for an 80s Dance Party featuring classic 80s hits. Join the SOSers for this fun kick-off to Orientation.

      Sunday, August 20

      10:00 am: Welcome Church Service

      Join us to celebrate the beginning of the school year with a special worship service in Tapscott Chapel.

      11:00 am-1:00 pm: Brunch in the Cafeteria

      1:00 pm -5:00 pm: Block sessions I

      Learn about the following during small group sessions: 

           – Kentucky Wesleyan College History   
           – Academic Support Services
           – College 101     
           – Take a special campus tour

      5:30 pm: Dinner available in the Cafeteria

      9:00 pm: PLAYFAIR!       
      Jones Gym

      Monday, August 21

      9:00 am-11:00 am: Block Sessions II

      10:00 am-12:00 pm: Groups explore Downtown Owensboro

      12:00-2:00 pm: Groups explore Downtown Owensboro

      2:00 pm-5:00 pm: Block Sessions II

      Learn about the following during small group sessions:

           – Technology on campus
           – Library
           – Career Services
           – Student Conduct/The Wesleyan Way

      5:30 pm: Dinner available in the Cafeteria

      8:00 pm: Orientation groups meet in break-out areas

      9:00 pm: Hypnotist in Rogers Hall

      Hypnotist Daniel James has appeared on America’s Got Talent, The Tonight Show, The Ellen Show and at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Join us for his lightning-fast, high energy, interactive show.

      Tuesday, August 22

      9:30 am-Noon: Community Volunteer Projects

      Five Orientation Groups will participate in a service project at a local service agency. 

      9:00 am-Noon: Block Sessions III

      Learn about the following during small group sessions:

           – Wellness         
           – Alcohol           
           – Sexual Assault

      11:30 am-1:30 pm: Lunch available in the Cafeteria

      Noon-2:30 pm: Community Volunteer Projects

      Five Orientation Groups will participate in a service project at a local service agency. 

      1:00 pm-4:00 pm: Block Sessions IV

      Learn about the following during small group sessions:

           – Wellness
           – Alcohol
           – Sexual Assault

      5:30 pm: Dinner available in the Cafeteria

      7:00 pm: Orientation groups meet in break-out areas

      8:00 pm: Student Involvement Fair and Ice Cream Social

      Join us in Rogers Hall for the Student Involvement Fair, sponsored by your Student Government Association (SGA).  Student organizations will host tables where you can learn about available activities and benefits of membership.  Ice cream will be provided and each organization will provide yummy toppings.

      9:00 pm: Presidential address

      A special annual tradition when President Darrell give a charge to the freshman class.

      Wednesday, August 23: First day of classes
