Wesleyan Way Day of Service and Giving Tuesday to take place Dec. 2 and 3

College seeks to top $750,000 in fifth year of Giving Tuesday participation

For the fifth consecutive year, Kentucky Wesleyan College will participate in Giving Tuesday on Dec. 3. The College has set a goal of raising more than $150,000 in 2019, which would push the cumulative five-year total to more than $750,000. The Wesleyan Way Day of Service will be hosted on Dec. 2, kicking off the two-day event which has become a signature of the Kentucky Wesleyan community. Students, faculty, staff and alumni have committed more than 1,170 hours since the inception of the service day.

“Giving back defines who we are as a Kentucky Wesleyan family,” said Eddie Kenny, vice president of advancement. “These two days highlight our commitment to service and support. We witness the selflessness of service and the commitment of time and financial investment from our students, faculty, staff and alumni. The impact of both days is felt both now and long into the future. Our gratefulness for the support and generosity of participants cannot be overstated.”

The Wesleyan Way Day of Service is facilitated by the Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning (CETL) and aims to provide 425 hours of community service in 2019. The service opportunities focus on the local Owensboro/Daviess County community with student groups and organizations, faculty, staff and alumni serving at local schools, fellow non-profits and on-campus beautification projects. Groups and individuals seeking to get involved may do so by contacting Shiloh Young, program assistant in the CETL, at shiloh.young@kwc.edu or (270) 852-3254.

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Anyone can visit kwc.edu/give on Dec. 3 to make a secure online gift. The Office of Advancement (Room 105 or 109 in the Barnard-Jones Administration Building on Wesleyan’s campus) will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Giving Tuesday for those who wish to hand-deliver gifts.
