Financing Study Abroad
Financial Aid
If you receive federal or state financial aid (Pell grant, for example), your aid may be used to study abroad. There are limitations, so check with the Financial Aid office at finaid@kwc.edu.
Kentucky Wesleyan scholarships and grants
We have two scholarships for students planning to study abroad. Apply for these through the Study Abroad Office by contacting tcoy@kwc.edu.
- Hauser Grants – these grants may be used for tuition and other costs
- Dearing Global Outlook Fund – may NOT be used for tuition but can be used for incidental and other costs (airfare, living expenses, eg.)

External scholarships or grants
Many study abroad organizations offer financial support if you study through their programs. Be sure to ask. There are also other grants available.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship: up to $5,000
U.S. Fulbright Student Program
Boren Scholarships & Fellowship: up to $20,000 (requires a commitment to work for the federal government for one year in the national security arena)
Applying to Study Abroad

Apply for external scholarships and grants, if applicable.
Please contact Professor Tamara Coy at the Study Abroad Office to help you find a program that suits you.
- Choose your study abroad program. Students can choose from summer, winter, and semester-long programs.
- Talk with your academic advisor. Your advisor can help you select equivalent courses that transfer smoothly as well as help you determine the best study term.
- Apply to your selected program. Programs with external partners may require additional forms, so be sure to confirm the requirements of your program.
- Complete the KWC study abroad forms online. These will be sent to Professor Tamara Coy at the Study Abroad Office. The application will be reviewed and passed along to the appropriate parties. Remember, ALL application materials come through the Study Abroad Office.
