The Exercise Science program at Kentucky Wesleyan College blends biology, anatomy, and physiology with hands-on training in fitness and health. Students prepare for careers in physical therapy, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and wellness, gaining skills for graduate school and high-demand health professions.

Exercise Science Program Features

The Exercise Science major requires approximately 39–42 credit hours in health and science courses, combined with general education requirements. Students complete Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Nutrition, and Motor Learning, supported by coursework in biology, chemistry, and statistics. Laboratory experiences accompany many classes, providing training in exercise testing, fitness assessment, and program design. A senior seminar integrates scientific knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for professional certification exams or graduate programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, or other health-related fields. The curriculum emphasizes both rigorous scientific study and hands-on application, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in healthcare, fitness, and wellness.Kentucky Wesleyan’s Exercise Science program equips students to turn their passion for health and movement into a career with impact. Career Paths

Physical Therapist (with Graduate Study) – Physical therapists help patients recover from injuries, surgeries, and illnesses by restoring movement and reducing pain. This high-demand healthcare career offers excellent earning potential and opportunities in hospitals, clinics, and sports medicine.

Occupational Therapist (with Graduate Study) – Occupational therapists assist individuals in regaining independence in daily life and work. They design personalized treatment plans and often work in healthcare, schools, and rehabilitation centers.

Exercise Physiologist – Exercise physiologists develop fitness and rehabilitation programs to improve cardiovascular health, strength, and endurance. They work with hospitals, wellness centers, and athletic organizations.

Athletic Trainer – Athletic trainers specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating sports-related injuries. They support athletes at schools, universities, clinics, and professional sports organizations.

Strength and Conditioning Specialist – These professionals design and implement training programs that enhance athletic performance. They work with collegiate teams, professional athletes, and fitness organizations.

Wellness Coordinator – Wellness coordinators create programs that promote healthy lifestyles in schools, corporations, and community organizations, helping groups and individuals achieve long-term well-being.
