The Health Education program at Kentucky Wesleyan College prepares students to design, implement, and evaluate health programs. With coursework in nutrition, health promotion, and wellness, graduates are equipped for careers in schools, healthcare, nonprofits, and public health organizations.

Health Education P-12 Program Features

At Kentucky Wesleyan, the Health Education program blends science, communication, and leadership to prepare students for roles in promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles. Students complete courses in anatomy, physiology, nutrition, health promotion, and program planning, while developing communication skills that make them effective educators. Faculty mentors provide personal guidance, helping students connect coursework to professional goals. Engaged learning opportunities include service projects, wellness campaigns, and fieldwork in schools or community health settings. Internships with healthcare providers, nonprofits, or public health agencies provide real-world experience. With its strong focus on applied learning, the program equips graduates to educate, motivate, and inspire individuals and communities to improve their health and quality of life.

Career Paths

School Health Educator – School health educators teach students about nutrition, fitness, mental health, and wellness, helping children and teens develop lifelong healthy habits.

Public Health Specialist – Public health specialists design and deliver programs that address community health issues, prevent disease, and promote wellness on a population level.

Wellness Program Coordinator – Coordinators develop and manage wellness initiatives in workplaces, schools, or community organizations, focusing on physical activity, stress management, and overall health improvement.

Community Health Worker – Community health workers connect individuals with healthcare resources, provide education, and support outreach programs that improve access to care in underserved populations.

Corporate Health Promotion Specialist – These specialists design and oversee employee wellness programs, helping organizations improve workplace health, reduce costs, and support productivity.

Health Education P-12 Program Requirements

The Health Education major requires approximately 39–42 credit hours. Core courses include Human Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Health Promotion, Community Health, and Program Planning in Health Education. Students also study epidemiology, psychology, and statistics to strengthen interdisciplinary skills. Laboratory and project-based courses develop practical experience in health education program design and evaluation. A senior seminar integrates research, reflection, and professional preparation. Field experiences and internships give students opportunities to apply learning in schools, community centers, or healthcare settings. This comprehensive curriculum provides the technical knowledge and applied practice needed to pursue certification and careers as health educators or wellness professionals.
