Expand your Preschool through 12th grade teaching license with health education expertise

The Health Endorsement at Kentucky Wesleyan College, designed in conjunction with the Physical Education P–12 program, prepares future teachers to teach both physical education and health in Kentucky schools. This endorsement equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to promote wellness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles in diverse classroom settings.

Health Endorsement Program Features

At Kentucky Wesleyan, the Health Endorsement enhances the P–12 Physical Education program by adding coursework in health promotion, nutrition, and community health. Students gain the ability to design engaging lessons that address fitness, wellness, and disease prevention for children and adolescents. Faculty mentors provide personalized guidance in small classes, ensuring readiness for Kentucky licensure exams. Engaged learning includes field placements, service-learning projects, and opportunities to deliver health lessons in school and community settings. This endorsement broadens teaching opportunities, making graduates more versatile and marketable as educators. By completing the Health Endorsement, students are equipped to inspire healthier lives and promote lifelong wellness among their future students.

Career Paths

P–12 Physical Education and Health Teacher – Teachers licensed in both areas lead PE classes and health education, helping students develop physical fitness, wellness knowledge, and lifelong healthy habits.

School Health Coordinator – Coordinators oversee schoolwide health and wellness programs, aligning curriculum with state standards and promoting initiatives that improve student well-being.

Youth Program Leader – Youth leaders design and manage fitness, health, and recreational programs in schools, community organizations, and after-school settings.

Community Health Educator – Educators provide outreach and design wellness programs for local communities, connecting health knowledge with public engagement.

Graduate Study in Health or Education – Many graduates pursue advanced degrees in health promotion, curriculum development, or educational leadership, opening pathways to higher-level roles in schools and communities.

Health Endorsement Program Requirements

The Health Endorsement requires additional credit hours beyond the Physical Education P–12 major. Core courses include Human Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Health Promotion, Community Health, and Program Planning in Health Education. These courses are paired with pedagogy and methods classes that prepare students to integrate health education into P–12 classrooms. Students complete field experiences in local schools, culminating in student teaching that includes both physical education and health instruction. This curriculum ensures graduates meet state endorsement requirements while gaining a broader skill set, making them eligible to teach both health and physical education in Kentucky schools.
