Biography
Brandon Cox believes words matter. Across journalism, energy, real estate and technology, his work has centered on one idea: helping people understand complex things so they can make better decisions. He brings that experience to Kentucky Wesleyan College, where he has taught public relations, advertising, marketing and communications since 2023.
A first-generation college graduate, Brandon earned his BA in graphic design and visual communications from Kentucky Wesleyan in 2010. While still a student, he taught underclass graphic design courses as a supplemental instructor. He later earned an MBA in marketing from Louisiana State University.
Brandon spent more than a decade in the newspaper industry. He started as a graphic artist at the Messenger-Inquirer in Owensboro and became a publisher by his early 30s. He led newsrooms in Texas, Alabama and Kentucky, including The Bay City Tribune, one of the oldest newspapers in Texas, and the Jackson County Sentinel in Scottsboro, Alabama. As president and publisher of the Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville, he oversaw eight newspapers and a radio station across Western Kentucky. His newsrooms earned dozens of state press association awards, and Editor & Publisher magazine named him to its 25 Under 35 list in 2020. He also served on the Texas Press Association Legislative Advisory Council, advocating for open records and government transparency.
Between newspaper roles, Brandon led internal communications for STP Nuclear Operating Company which operates a two-unit nuclear power facility south of Houston, Texas. He served on the Nuclear Energy Institute’s crisis communications task force, wrote executive speeches delivered at MIT, Stanford and Texas A&M, and briefed lawmakers on energy policy. As chief marketing officer of Lynn Group, a Texas engineering, construction and real estate development company, he led a campaign that generated $24 million in revenue.
Today Brandon runs revenue operations for Fastek Technology Services in Owensboro, where he leads nationwide sales and marketing, and also acts as a virtual chief information officer for client businesses and advises them on cybersecurity and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. He is also the founder of bcc: (Brandon Cox Communications), a marketing and communications consultancy.
His memoir, It Goes With You: The Climb Within, explores imposter syndrome through his climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. It debuted at No. 10 on Amazon’s bestseller list and reached No. 4. A freelance sports photographer for the Owensboro Times and an endurance athlete, Brandon lives in Owensboro with his wife, Charity, and their four children.
