OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Kentucky Wesleyan College Theatre Program will host the Cambridge University American Stage Tour from the United Kingdom for a production of Shakespeare’s King Lear on Thursday, September 10, at 7:00 p.m. The two-hour play will be held at the Jack T. Wells ’77 Activity Center, located at 3300 Frederica St.
“We are thrilled to have the Cambridge students return this year, after having an incredible experience with them last year,” said Nate Gross, professor of Theatre Arts at KWC. “It’s so good for our students to spend time with them and to see how theatre is done in England, and good for the entire community to see the quality work they do with Shakespeare on stage.”
The Cambridge University American Stage Tour is led by Cambridge students and tours the eastern United States each year. After departing Owensboro, the group will perform at theaters in Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Massachusetts.
The group will also host a workshop in partnership with Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 9, at 4:00 p.m. in the Tapscott Chapel, located at 3000 Frederica St. The workshop is free and open to the public. Participants in the workshop will learn about Shakespeare, King Lear, and have the opportunity to ask the visiting Cambridge students questions regarding their experiences.
Tickets to the performance of King Lear are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting the event page. Seating is limited, and the event is one night only. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $20 for general admission, $14 for students, and $17 for KWC staff and faculty.
