UK College of Medicine Early Assurance Program

Kentucky Wesleyan College and University of Kentucky College of Medicine Bowling Green

The Early Assurance Program partnership between Kentucky Wesleyan College and the UK College of Medicine-Bowling Green (UKCOM-BG) will focus on physician workforce needs throughout South Central and Western Kentucky.  In an effort to attract top students for the anticipated 30 student class each year, Wesleyan and UK have launched our Early Assurance Program (EAP) partnership.  The EAP will reserve two spots in each class for qualifying students from Wesleyan, while others may also apply for acceptance into the program after having met the required criteria.

Program Requirements

To be eligible for the EAP program, students must meet the following requirements:    

  • At least 60 credit hours in progress, including 15 in General and Organic Chemistry, 8 in General Biology and 6 in English (apply to EAP during 4th semester)
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.6 or better in both science coursework and overall
  • Interest in practicing in South Central/Western Kentucky
  • Satisfy all general and major requirements for the bachelor’s degree
  • Meet all other undergraduate requirements for graduation

Early Assurance Program Highlights

  • Shadowing and mentoring experiences with physicians
  • Academic advising by Wesleyan faculty
  • Targeted research/seminar/course experiences
  • MCAT preparation
  • One-week summer boot camp in Bowling Green, Kentucky

 

Requirements for Assured Admission to UKCOM-BG Campus

  • Complete at least 4 semesters of Chemistry and Biochemistry, 2 in Biology, 2 in English and 2 in Physics
  • Maintain 3.5 GPA or better in science and overall
  • Successful completion of the MCAT with a total score of at least 504 with all subscores of at least 124
  • Participate in all EAP components
  • Applicants must apply through American Medical School Application Service (AMCAS) using the designation “Early Assurance.” The application should be submitted within seven calendar days of the first day that AMCAS allows application submission (June 1st)
  • Obtain recommendation from Kentucky Wesleyan Pre-Medical Advisory Committee
  • Complete a satisfactory interview and background check
