Kentucky Wesleyan launches Marketing and Social Media Internship Program

Kentucky Wesleyan College launched a Marketing and Social Media Internship Program in the Marketing Department this semester, under the direction of Vice President of Admissions and Financial Aid Jeremy Pittman and Director of Marketing and Communications April Ray. The internship provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn and engage in all aspects of marketing and social media management: researching stories, collecting photos and videos, and publishing content to drive recruitment.

“This is a cutting edge internship that creates opportunities for our students to develop crucial marketing and social media skills that translate to the twenty-first century workforce,” said Jeremy Pittman. “Students will learn how to manage social media accounts and gain an understanding of marketing planning, strategy and implementation. As the program grows, we will enhance the internship experience and provide a service to the public through partnerships for our students throughout the business community.”

“I wish such an opportunity had been available to me when I was a college student,” remarked April Ray. “Many of us are experts in the technology of social media, but this program allows students to experience the step-by-step approach to organizing an organization’s social media presence. The process gives students a real purpose behind their efforts and valuable hands-on experience that will propel them into their future careers.”

Sophomore Nicole Venema from Mattawan, Mich., a fitness and sport management major, reflected on her experience. “I have been in charge of the College’s social media accounts, including Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram and learned a lot about social media through interviewing students and covering school events.”
