For the third consecutive year, Kentucky Wesleyan College will host the Wesleyan Way Day of Service on Monday, Nov. 27, followed by #GivingTuesday on Nov. 28. Last year’s two-day event included Wesleyan students, faculty and staff who provided 320 hours toward service projects throughout the community while raising over $147,000 for the College.
The day of service will again include partnerships with local nonprofit organizations, to include St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, Working Hands, CrossRoads, ARC of Owensboro, the Munday Activity Center, Joe Ford Nature Center and Owensboro Christian Church, among others.
The event is sponsored by ADventures/Wax Works, Butler County United Methodist Women, Hendrick Screen Company, Independence Bank and the Owensboro District of the United Methodist Church.
Wesleyan President Barton D. Darrell said the College values its ties to the community.
“We’re excited to again kick off the giving season with this two-day event,” Darrell said. “This signature program, along with our other year-round efforts, continues to show how much Kentucky Wesleyan College values service to our community.”
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity worldwide. It is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities, with a focus on participation rather than how much a person is able to give. More than 30,000 organizations have participated in the Giving Tuesday initiative since its inception in 2012.
Anyone can visit kwc.edu/give on Nov. 28 to make a secure online gift. The Advancement Office (Room 105 in the Barnard-Jones Administration Building on Wesleyan’s campus) will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Giving Tuesday for those who wish to hand deliver gifts.
With the end of the calendar year approaching, gifts of appreciated stock and Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) from an IRA are also a great way to participate while taking advantage of additional tax benefits. For more information on these options, or to make a gift by phone via Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express, call the Kentucky Wesleyan Office of Advancement at (270) 852-3142 or e-mail advancement@kwc.edu.
