Kentucky Wesleyan College is currently accepting applications for its Scholars’ Academy program that will take place on the college’s campus in June.
The Scholars’ Academy is a week-long experience for students who have completed their junior year of high school, according to a press release from KWC.
Included in the program is a stay in residential housing, a week of study, and all meals and materials, the release said.
Matthew Ruark, associate director of admissions at KWC, said Monday that the Scholars’ Academy is a leadership program in which students will get a lot of in-classroom experience with various KWC faculty and community members.
Also included will be a host of community events that are modeled after the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Owensboro, Ruark said.
Participants will be led by KWC faculty and staff, will experience college life, and will also meet and learn from the leaders of Owensboro, the release said.
Participants will receive a $1,000 scholarship to KWC when they complete the program, and this is one reason why Ruark said students should take advantage of it.
Also, bringing students together from across the commonwealth is an important facet of the Scholars’ Academy.
“It’s a good opportunity for students to interact and meet others,” he said. “And get an early taste of what college will look like.”
Students are being introduced “to the value of the liberal arts experience and the value of community in an engaging, fast-paced environment.”
The Scholars’ Academy will run June 25 through July 1 on KWC’s campus. Students are accepted from an application process.
