Why I Give: Margaret Cole Cambron ’78 Director of Career Development

“I was a horrible alumna for many years. I lived right here in Owensboro, and I didn’t give to my alma mater or attend events. I was not connected to Wesleyan in any way, even though the College reached out to me. I wasted many years when I could have been supporting the College.

_mg_0058I joined the Wesleyan staff as Director in April 2010, and I began to realize what the College had done for me so many years before when I was a student. I had learned how to learn as a Wesleyan student, and with the perspective of the years, I could see and appreciate that truth very clearly.

I had prayed for a job where I could make a difference that also provided benefits to employees. God gave me the job of my dreams, and the benefits are far beyond anything in an HR handbook.

Our students energize me, and I love the people I work with; so I am surrounded by our students and surrounded by faculty and staff who care about them and for them. What an atmosphere!

I believe in what we do here. I started to give financially in 2010, and I joined the President’s Circle when it was created last year.

I work with students every day who benefit from the generosity of our investors. So many of our students don’t have it easy, and I want to help.

When I give to an organization, I want to know the money is used wisely. I know that happens here at Wesleyan. I trust President Darrell, and I believe in the direction in which he is taking us. Our leadership makes wise decisions.

Every check written and every dollar given contributes to changing lives.”
