Advising FAQ

  •  What is academic advising?

    • Academic Advising at Kentucky Wesleyan College is a partnership between faculty and the Office of Academic Advising. The Office of Academic Advising provides guidance and assistance to faculty and students on the specifics of the curriculum, programs and requirements for graduation. Academic Advising offers students the opportunity to plan and review their academic and career goals through ongoing discussion with faculty.

  • How do I schedule an appointment with an academic advisor?

    • Scheduling an appointment with an Academic Advisor is easy! All you have to do is send them an email and request an appointment. If you are unsure of who your advisor is, you can reach out to the Office of Academic Advising at advising@kwc.edu.

  •  Can I meet with any advisor, or am I assigned to one?

    • You will meet with your assigned advisor to make sure you are placed in the correct courses for your chosen major. The Office of Academic Advising is always available to help you prepare for a meeting with your assigned advisor.

  •  How often should I meet with my academic advisor?

    • You are required to meet with your advisor once per semester prior to registration. However, we encourage you to have regular meetings with your advisor to discuss your career and academic goals.

  • What should I bring to my advising appointment?

    • You should bring your purple Advising Folder which includes important information about progress toward your degree. Also, bring your planner and a list of courses you are interested in taking. If you are meeting with your advisor to discuss career opportunities or other academic goals, bring something to take notes. Make sure to write down questions for your advisor prior to the meeting.

  •  What courses do I need to take to fulfill my degree requirements?

    • The degree requirements for each major are unique. You can locate the requirements for your degree in the Academic Bulletin or in your Degree Audit in the Student Portal. If you need assistance finding the requirements for your degree, please contact the Office of Academic Advising at advising@kwc.edu.

  • How can I track my progress towards graduation?

    • You can track your progress towards graduation by checking your Degree Audit found on your Student Portal. Your Academic Advisor serves as expert in the requirements for your degree and will help ensure you are scheduled for the correct courses.

  •  Can I change my major, and if so, how?

    • Yes! You can change your major at any time, however, it is important to remember that not all majors have the same course requirements. To change your major, you must submit the Change of Major form located on Panthernet. If you are unsure about changing your major, please stop by the Office of Academic Advising for assistance.
