Roy Pickerill celebrated 50 years on the campus of Kentucky Wesleyan College in the fall of 2021. He began his role in the Advancement Office after retiring as the longest-tenured Sports Information Director in school history. In his role as Special Assistant for College Relations, he works with the Advancement division of the College in support of alumni relations, development, and public relations initiatives. He was inducted into the Wesleyan Alumni Hall of Fame In 2012, and the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.

“It is impossible to overstate the impact Roy Pickerill has had on Kentucky Wesleyan athletics over the course of his career,” said Rob Mallory, former Director of Athletics at Kentucky Wesleyan. “No one has done more to make this department what it is today.”

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 1999. CoSIDA presented him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in June 2017. Pickerill served as the first President of the Division II Sports Information Directors Association consisting of 281 members for three years from 2006 to 2009. His involvement with Small College Basketball has also left a lasting legacy, and was rightly recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Small College Basketball in 2020.

The Louisville, Ky., native graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He is married to his Wesleyan Sweetheart, Margaret (Stinnette) Pickerill ’75.
