Derik is currently an Instructor of Communications and the college’s radio station manager. He has 25+ years’ experience in radio and broadcasting. In those 25+ years, he has worked for the college for over 16 years running the radio station. In more recent years, he became full-time and has been able to focus more on the growth of the department and allowing students to build confidence through practical learning. The radio station, WKWC 90.3, a 5,000-watt station serving Daviess and surrounding counties. Its diversified music format includes acoustic, rock, album rock and Americana. The station also features block-style programming on the weekends featuring bluegrass and Christian music. WKWC also broadcasts local news, sports and specialty programs while giving students an opportunity to gain valuable on-air and behind-the-scenes experience. Derik is happily married to Amanda (Murphy) Hancock, who works at Settle Memorial Preschool. They have three cats.
