Dr. Lora Canter has a passion for faith-based, post-secondary education. She started out her career as an elementary teacher and taught in the public school system for five years. With much prayer, she decided to pursue a new career journey in post-secondary education. The Lord led her to a local, faith-based university where she served as Director of Academic Services of the non-traditional programs .She served there for seven years before working briefly as a Workforce Skills Specialist and then moving into remote administrative and teaching responsibilities. She now teaches online at several colleges and universities, including Kentucky Wesleyan College. In addition to her teaching career,  Dr. Canter has recently served as an instructional designer at a foreign university.

Her degrees include a B.S. in Elementary Education, M.A. in Education, M.S. in Psychology with a concentration in Human Development,, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Psychology. Her dissertation focused on faith integration among faculty at faith-based institutions. Soon after conferring her doctorate degree, Dr. Canter published a summary of her dissertation in The Journal of Baptist Theology and Ministry. She has also written a grant during her doctoral studies and her grant application was accepted by the funding agency.

Her family is also very important to her. Dr. Canter grew up in western Kentucky and still lives in this area. She is married to her best friend, and they have two adult sons. Their family holds membership at a local church. A few years ago, she purchased her grandparent’s home place and feels blessed to have the opportunity to hold onto a significant piece of her family’s legacy.

She loves Christian higher education and helping adults achieve their educational goals. Dr. Canter is a life-long learner and hopes to instill a growth mindset into the students she encounters in the online learning environment.
